Red Light Therapy

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM) or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), uses powerful light wavelengths to penetrate the skin and tissues, potentially offering therapeutic benefits.

How does it work?

Much like nourishment & rest, out bodies need light. Exposure to specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light can stimulate the mitochondria in cells to produce more energy within our cells (ATP) leading to enhanced cell function and repair.

What are the potential benefits?

More than a thousand peer-reviewed trials and studies on various forms of light treatment have been published. Some of the encouraging findings include:

  • Pain Relief

  • Reduced Inflammation

  • Enhanced Circulation

  • Mood Enhancement

  • Shortened Recovery Time

  • Stimulation of Collagen Production

  • Enhanced Skin & Hair Health

Red Light Therapy is a valid and popular alternative healing modality which can enhance performance, beauty, and overall
well-being.

How often should I do this?

In general we recommend 10-20 minutes per treatment area on bare skin, with a max of 2-3 treatment areas per day. This is a great guideline for basically all applications. We recommend using light therapy at least 3 to 5 times a week for optimal results.

Are there any contraindications?

We do recommend caution with Red Light on any areas of the body that may have pre-existing hyperpigmentation concerns, as this type of light may aggravate this condition.

Also people with diseases that affect the retina, such as diabetes, should not use red light therapy.

People taking medications that increase skin or eye sensitivity, such as lithium, melatonin, phenothiazine antipsychotics, and certain antibiotics, should not use red light therapy while under the influence of those medications.

Pregnant women, epileptics, and people with a family history of skin cancer should speak with their doctor before using Red Light Therapy.

Are there harmful EMFs?

There is no readable EMF at 4” or further from our Red Light panels.

Can this damage my eyes?

Optional eye protection is available in the booth if you wish to use it. There is no exact type/frequency of light emitted from our Red Lights that is specifically more or less dangerous that any other type/frequency. What can be harmful to eyes is the intensity of a light.. not the actually type of light that its emitting. For this reason, we ask to please never look directly into the panels due to this intensity. You would take the same precautions with our lights as you would with any other very intense light by not looking directly into them. Many users either close their eyes or look to the sides of the lights while in use.

What does a session look like?

Your session will be in a private booth we’ve created in our wellness center. You enter the booth, lock the door, disrobe, put on protective eyewear (optional), put on headphones (optional), and press the power button on the remote control for the RLT panels. The panels stay on for 20 minutes, with a beep halfway through to let you know to flip sides. Alternatively you may turn sides whenever you wish. After 20 minutes the panels will turn off automatically, then you get dressed and exit the booth.
